Configure the Google Shopping extension

This is an article from the Google Shopping Feed extension for Magento 1. We've tried our best in the preparation of this help article. If you do not find the answer you were looking for, you can always send us a message through this form.

The config to configure the Google Shopping Feed extension is located at: System > Configuration > Magmodules > Google Shopping.

Data: Description
The description is a required field for the feed. Select the attribute that is using this value.

Data: Condition
The condition is a required field for the feed. Only three options are available: New, Refurbished & Used. Please select the default condition of your products. When you change the condition on the product level in the Google Shopping Tab, the product condition will be overwritten.

Data: GTIN
Use the GTIN/Barcode attribute to submit Global Trade Item Numbers (GTINs) in one of the following formats: UPC (in North America), EAN (in Europe), JAN (in Japan) or ISBN (for books). Please select the attribute that provides these GTINs (for eg. SKU).

Data: Brand
Required according to the Unique Product Identifier Rules for all target countries except for Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, India, Mexico, Norway, Poland, Russia, Sweden, and Turkey. This attribute is recommended for Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, India, Mexico, Norway, Poland, Russia, Sweden, and Turkey.
Note: Do not provide your store name as the brand unless you manufacture the product.

Data: MPN
The Manufacturer Part Number is used to reference and identify a product using a manufacturer specific naming other than GTIN. MPNs are assigned by a manufacturer. MPNs should typically be specific to a single unique product. For example, different colors of a product should have different MPNs.

Data: Category
Products are categorized in Google Shopping according to the Google product taxonomy. While Google cannot guarantee that a product will show in a particular category, you can increase the chances of your products being included in the most relevant categories by sending them highly structured information for your items.

You are recommended to provide the following product information for each unique item you submit if it exists, is relevant, and if the information fits into the accepted values for the following detailed product attributes as:

Color
Material
Pattern
Size
Size Type
Size System
Gender

This option allows you to change the product condition in the Google Shopping Feed on the product level. Go to your product and select the product condition that is aberrant from the default condition.

To increase the applicability of the categories in the Google shopping feed, you can use the Google shopping product taxonomy and configure them in the category management product tab. Click here to read more about the Google product Taxonomy including the different categories.

Tax Customization.
By default prices are shown incl. Tax so only change this option if necessary.
If the feed export is without tax it's possible to add it with this option.

Identifier Exists.
This new attribute was created for shops that offer custom goods without an identifier like GTIN or MPN.Custom goods are hand knitted sweaters or antique furniture or vintage items. The ‘Identifier Exists’ field can be used to indicate that an identifier does not exist for certain products: Identifier exists = false. Not required for regular goods.

Product Type.
The ‘product type’ attribute also indicates the category of the product being sold.
Product Types gives you more control over how your products are segmented as it uses your Magento Category structure. The benefit of Product Types is that here you don’t have to use Google’s predefined set of categories, instead you can categorise them however you would like, for example you can follow your own Magento Category hierarchy.

Extra Fields.
If you want to submit more fields to your Google Shopping Feed you can fill in the data here.

Shipping.
Configure the different shipping methods from your store by country, service, the from to price and the final shipping price in that range. You can add unlimited Shipping methods in your feed but please keep in mind that there has to be a difference between the from-to price and the steps. For example: from 1 to 5 and 6 to 10 is valid and 1 to 5 and 5 to 10 is invalid.

Configurable & Grouped
When using configurable or grouped products you can choose to pull information from the parent products. It's specified as 'Configurable products - non apparel' or 'Apparel' markup so activate the Apparel setting to enable the Apparel markup in your feed. Select in the multiple-select box below the fall-back data for the configurable / grouped products in the feed.
You can select the attributes where you want to use the Parent Data for Simple.

Use Simple Product Pricing
Recommended: No
Only enable this option when you have enabled an extension that is using the simple prices in your store.

Export Configurable Parent
Recommended: No
We don't recommend to export the Configurable Parent product as the parent product can't be bought by itself.

Configurable Switch Urls
Recommended: Yes
In this way the URL will be automatically link to the correct simple product on the configurable product landing page.

Grouped Price
Set the calculation method when there is a grouped product in the feed. Recommended: Use default price

Google Analytics Tracking
When your using Google Analytics you can add your UTM tags right here, eg. utm_source=Googleshopping&utm_campaign=Googleshopping

This option allows you to exclude the product from the Google Shopping Feed. To exclude certain products from the Google Shopping feed, you easily select yes in the Google Shopping tab on your product configuration page.

Visibilty
This option allows you to add products with the following visibility.

Filter by Category
Enable the Filter by Category setting to exclude or include certain categories.
Select Include by Category to open the category area and select the categories to include.
Select Include by Category to open the category area and select the categories to exclude.

Each store view will have its own Google Shopping feed. You can easily activate or de-activate the Google Shopping feed generation on the store level or automatically generate the Google Shopping feed. In case you are not using the cronjob functionality, it is possible to generate the Google Shopping feed manually.

Feed Generation.
Select if you wish to generate the Google Shopping feed and the Filename.

Filename.
If needed, customize the filename if you want.

Log Feed Generation.
Write and save a log file with a summary of each feed generation. The logfile will be written to: var/log/googleshopping.log

Advanced: Paging.
Recommend for big catalogs, e.g. catalogs of 50.000 SKU, use 5.000 per page.

Bypass Flat Product Tables.
Bypass Flat catalog tables. Will result in higher resource usage as this will bypass the flat catalog and product index tables.

Overwrite Server Settings
Only use this option if it's necessary to overwrite this setting because of your server memory limit or execution time.

Cron.
The cronjob is a periodic script which runs automatically at a certain interval to generate the Google Shopping feed. Please make sure that your default Magento Cronjob is working. If not, contact your hosting company for help.

Selftest.
Perform a self test to check your setup on errors.

Generated Feeds.
All active feeds are shown in the overview below.
The .XML URL is the URL which can be provided into your Google Merchant Account. Regarding some cache settings in the browser it's also possible to download the Feed to make sure that you are viewing the latest version. There is a small note at the end of the XML file where you can find the time of generation and the number of products.
