Get Started with Magento 2 sitemap & robots extension

Get your Google Sitemap & Robots extension configured in 5 steps.

Prerequisites

Before starting, ensure you have:

• Module installed and enabled
• Admin access to Magento
• Working cron (for automated generation)

Step 1: Enable the Sitemap Module

1. Go to Magmodules → Sitemap → General
2. Set Enabled to Yes
3. Click Save Config

Step 2: Configure Sitemap Options

1. Navigate to Sitemap Options
2. For each content type (Categories, Products, CMS Pages, Homepage):
   • Set appropriate Update Frequency (daily, weekly, etc.)
   • Set Priority (0.0 to 1.0)
   • Enable Exclude No-Index to skip noindex pages
3. For Products: Enable Include Product Images for image indexing
4. Click Save Config

Step 3: Set Up Feed Generation

1. Go to Feed Generation Settings
2. Set Enable to Yes for each store view
3. Optionally customize the Filename
4. Enable Cron for automatic regeneration
5. Select Cron Frequency (daily recommended)
6. Click Save Config

Step 4: Generate Your First Sitemap

Option A - Via Admin:

• Click the Generate button in the Feeds section

Option B - Via CLI:

bin/magento mm-sitemap:generate

Step 5: Configure Robots (Optional)

1. Go to Magmodules → Robots → General
2. Set Enabled to Yes
3. Navigate to Settings
4. Set default robots for:
   • Category pages (e.g., INDEX, FOLLOW)
   • Product pages (e.g., INDEX, FOLLOW)
   • CMS pages (e.g., INDEX, FOLLOW)
5. Click Save Config

Verify Your Setup

1. Check the Feeds section for your sitemap URL
2. Open the URL in a browser to verify the XML content
3. Submit the sitemap URL to Google Search Console
